Rolls Royce Celebrates 100 Years Of Spirit of Ecstasy With 100 Rolls Royce Cars Exhibition

One of the foremost names in luxury automobiles, Rolls Royce, a name that has been associated with royalty and exclusivity for a long time recently marked the 100^th anniversary of the company’s Spirit of Ecstasy. This magnificent occasion was marked with a one of a kind parade of some one hundred Rolls Royce vehicles that was constituted of these famed luxury cars from all eras. Ranging from the Rolls Royce Phantom to Rolls Royce Ghost series of luxury cars, this unique gathering witnessed the participation of vehicles from the most vintage of years to the most recent models of the Phantom. This breathtaking display of luxury and remarkable engineering was conducted at Rolls Royce’s manufacturing office in Goodwood, West Sussex. The entirely exclusive gathering was organized by the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club and the event was attended by VIPs, media representatives etc. The centenary celebrations of Spirit of Ecstasy entailed comprehensive seminars on the production of the Spirit of Ecstasy and Bespoke Design, which also featured an photo-exhibition from celebrated photographer Rankin.

Furthermore, the centennial celebrations provided the 500 or so attendees with a rare opportunity of personal tours of the manufacturing plant as well as a splendid Grand Picnic Lunch and English Afternoon Tea. However, the highlight of this remarkable event was the concluding parade at the event which showcased some 100 Rolls Royce car spanning numerous generations. This majestic parade was led by a new Phantom Drophead Coupé and the event was conducted at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. After the initial parade at the circuit, the vehicles then moved on to Concours d’Elegance at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.

40 Luxury Timepieces on Sale at ‘Only Watch’ Charity Auction

The luxury watch industry is as competitive as it is generous. Both of these traits will be on display in the coming months as 40 of the top watch brands in the world have donated highly prized timepieces for the Only Watch international charity auction on September 23 in Monaco. All proceeds from the auction will go toward supporting research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a highly debilitating neuromuscular disease that affects children, primarily boys.

Under the patronage of Prince Albert II, 40 timepieces will be sold by the horological auction house, Antiquorum, at the Hotel Hermitage. The event, the fourth edition of the luxury watch auction, is expected to draw luxury watch connoisseurs from around the world as well as online and telephone bidders. The sale will be preceded by a nine-city world tour beginning August 30 that will end with a three-day exhibition at the Monaco Yacht Show, which is co-organizing Only Watch with the Monaco Association against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Antiquorum.

The last edition of Only Watch, in September 2009, raised 2.5 million euros ($3.5 million), which were donated to 15 scientific partners and their teams, including 90 researchers and clinicians in five countries (France, Italy, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States).

Luis Garcia, research director at the CNRS Paris, said the financial support from the last Only Watch auction went to support research that accelerated clinical developments on Duchenne muscular dystrophy over the past two years, including several clinical trials on exon skipping, some of which are already entering phase 3.

“For all these research efforts, the synergy of various scientific approaches, co-ordination between the various teams, and collaborative partnerships has all been decisive,” Garcia said.

New jumbo jet to debut at Paris Air Show

Boeing is to officially debut its new 747-8 Intercontinental at the Paris Air Show, it has confirmed.

The US aviation giant will display both the passenger and cargo versions of the aircraft at the show, which runs June 20-26.

The passenger version of the 747-8 Intercontinental, which took to the skies for the first time in March this year, will fly on June 19 and will be on static display until the evening of June 21, with Boeing's other new airliner, the 787 Dreamliner, on show afterwards (June 22-23).

Next year, Lufthansa is set to be the first airline to fly the new 747-8 Intercontinental, a stretched version of Boeing's classic jumbo jet which can carry 467 passengers and is expected to compete with Airbus' A380 'super jumbo.'

The 747-8 is designed for long-haul flights, with a range of 14,815 km that enables airlines to operate popular routes such as New York to Hong Kong or London to Singapore non-stop.

At a length of 76.4 meters, it is the world's longest aircraft and is expected to afford considerable efficiency savings compared with its predecessor.

The Paris Air Show is the oldest aviation show in the world, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors to Le Bourget Airport just outside Paris every two years.

As well as airplanes from manufacturers such as Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier, visitors can enjoy spectacular air shows from both fixed-wing and helicopter aircraft, as well as a history of aviation exhibition.
