The hospitality industry in South America is booming, and Brazil is leading the way, according to the latest data from industry analyst Lodging Econometrics.
There are currently 198 hotel projects under way in Brazil, which represents 62% of the total hotels currently under construction in South America.
The boom is based largely on the huge influx of visitors Brazil is expecting in 2014, when it hosts the World Cup, and in 2016, when Rio de Janeiro hosts the Summer Olympics.
Accor has the most projects underway in Brazil, including 55 hotels under its midscale Hotel Ibis brand, Lodging Econometrics said.
