When one thinks of actors who are also musicians, Richard Gere does not necessarily top the list.
But the actor's personal collection of guitars is expected to sell for $1 million anyway, when presented at an auction by Christie's New York Oct. 11.
Gere, best known for his rolls in Pretty Women and Chicago, acquired over time the collection of guitars with marquee names such as C.F. Martin, Gibson, Fender, Gretsch and Epiphone, as well as a selection of amplifiers, and iconic guitars that belonged to Albert King, Peter Tosh and James D'Aquisto.
“I’ve had a love affair with guitars since I was a kid," Gere said in a release. "They have been my true friends through the best and worst of times. I never planned to put together a collection, I just bought ones that I liked, the ones that sounded good and played well."
The collection was under-wraps until now. The proceeds from the sale will be given to humanitarian causes around the globe.'
