Bugatti's decision to stop producing the Veyron power-horse left a hole in the illustrious auto maker's portfolio. Fortunately, the 16C Galibier will step in to fill the gap.
Bugatti 16C Galibier is a cult car successor
The first concept studies for the Galibier – the follow-up to Bugatti's 300-example Veyron – were released in 2009. The 300 Veyron limited edition models have now been delivered to their owners and Bugatti has announced that there will not be a second run. So anybody lucky enough to be able to call a Veyron their own, will now get to enjoy the rising collector value that their machine is sure to experience.
This time around, the number of models is larger – the Galibier will be offered to a customer group of 3000. The price has already been announced on the official Bugatti website: the standard model will sell for 1.1 million Euro ($1.5 million).
A new class for a new era
Four door limousines have become something of a rarity since Bugatti began to dabble in the sports car world. The knowledge and experience they have gained in the world of high-performance has been put to good use with the new sedan, and is evident in the strong lines and daring accents.
Under the hood, which opens with gull-wing doors, Bugatti has reissued the enormous 8-liter 1000 hp V-16 motor from the Veyron. Matched with an intelligent hybrid system, the engine provides optimum balance between speed and efficiency. The first models should be available by the end of 2012.
