The 69th annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The host will comic Ricky Gervais again, who also hosted the show in 2011. Nominees for 2012 will be announced on December 15, 2011.

Presenters in 2011 included Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Lopez, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Matt Damon, Kevin Spacey, Tina Fey, Kevin Bacon, Helen Mirren, Vanessa Williams, Jimmy Fallon, LL Cool J and Bruce Willis.
Ricky Gervais was the host last year, too. Presenters for the 2010 show included Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Nicole Kidman, Paul McCartney, Harrison Ford, Halle Berry, Leonardo DiCaprio, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kate Winslet, Reese Witherspoon, Jodie Foster, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophia Loren, Sam Worthington, Amy Adams, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston, Cher, Christina Aguilera, Kate Hudson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Garner, Lauren Graham, Felicity Huffman, Neil Patrick Harris, Keifer Sutherland, Zachary Levi, Jim Parsons, Kristin Bell and Mickey Rourke.

The Golden Globes are given out each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The awards are sort of a cross between the Oscars and the Emmys, with awards honoring accomplishments in both motion pictures and television.

In the past, the Golden Globes award shows had taken place at various locations around town (including the Hollywood Palladium), but in recent years they seem to have settled down permanently at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills (a hotel originally owned by the late showman Merv Griffin, creator of "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune.")
The Golden Globe nominations are usually announced just before Christmas (providing extra publicity for the studio's important holiday movie-going season), and the awards themselves are usually given out a month later, on a weekend in mid-January.
There are 24 different categories, but unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes give separate movie awards for "Best Drama" and "Best Musical or Comedy." The awards show is televised live around the world on NBC.
Since they are the first of the major movie awards to be given out, the Golden Globes are seen by many as a bellwether for the Oscars. As a result, many of Hollywood's biggest stars show up at the Beverly Hilton for the awards ceremony. And many celebs seems to enjoy the Golden Globes show more than the Oscars; perhaps because the pressure isn't quite as great, perhaps because the show includes dinner - but they say it's just more fun.

There are a limited number of bleacher seats set up in front of the Beverly Hilton Hotel for fans who want to catch a good glimpse of their favorite stars arriving on the red carpet before the show.
However, there's a big catch. Unlike the Oscars, this seating isn't free. And they only sell bleacher tickets to hotel guests, as part of a hotel room/tickets package priced from $1,800 to $2,600 #with the $2,600 getting you seats in the front row of the bleachers#. Apparently, there is no place #other than the bleachers# where people can just stand for free and watch the arrivals. So, your only option is to book a room at the Hilton - or forget about it.

But believe it or not, in early September, the Hilton said they were already completely sold out, and they were taking names for a waiting list. So next time around contact them early - before August, and make reservations. Or else get your name on the waiting list and say a prayer.
