A two-day auction in Hong Kong proved once again that China really is a leading wine market, with many rich connoisseurs that are willing to spend impressive amounts of money on a few bottles of fine wine. The rare French wine auction was held at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong and it was held by US house Acker Merrall & Condit.
Featuring a precious collection by Don Stott, who is arguably the greatest collector of Burgundy ever, the auction set no less than145 world records, including 13 for Louis Jadot, 17 for Domaine de la Romanee Conti, 22 for Domaine Dujac and 23 for Georges Roumier. Ninety-eight percent of all lots were sold, raising a total of $14.5 million.
Among the most remarkable items at the event there was a case of 1985 La Tache, sold for $50,230, a case of 1990 DRC La Tache, which fetched $69,070, and 12 bottles of 1990 Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux Henri Jayer, which went for a staggering $94,300 – the most expensive lot of the auction.
